Answering a question from Courtney on products

Hey Nancy…I need your help! I’m looking for a hairspray that drys fast and I can use to texturize or shape my layers the way I want them?? Any suggestions??

You need more than one product! There are texturizing products- cremes, pastes, and waxes. After you dry your hair with your favorite styling product,(mousse, gel, or a creme)  use the texturizing product, working from underneath to detail the ends and build up some volume at the scalp area. Then you use spray to hold. My most favorite products for styling are by Aquage. On your hair I would use Aquage Defining Gel on wet hair, Detailing Creme on dry hair, and Finishing spray to finish.

Aquage products do not build up, are healthy for your hair and great for colored hair. They make lots of shine!

Think Ombré

This trend is all over fashion blogs and on the runway.

The ombré technique is a trend color lovers just can’t get enough of. To get the ombré look we recommends hair that is at least shoulder length. Ombré is supposed to be sun-kissed in appearance. Think leftover exposure from last summer. Short hair is not long enough to have been ‘ombré-aged.’ It will just look funny

Justin Bieber is  loved by girls around the world. But his hair is the envy of young men everywhere. “It’s short, easy to style, messy and, you can say it, sexy,” Keep it short   Give  it lots of texture and create the shag and surfer look. The guys don’t have to do much with it—just wake up, mess it up and go.”

Medium Curly Hair

Medium curl has a tendency to go frizzy, so less handling is better. Educate your medium We advise our curly clients to carefully and softly scrunch hair with a t shirt to get some of the moisture out after washing.  Towels are too rough, raise the cuticle and make more frizz. Then, the choice of product depends on what direction you want to take.  Aquage Curl Defining Creme  works great. There are so many options with medium curly hair— enhancing and molding it into larger curls, structuring stronger ringlet curls, reworking it into a lazy wave, or setting it to dry in its naturally curly state—just to name a few.

Curly Hair

Curly Hair naturally has an open cuticle which adds to dryness.

The secret is to keep the cuticle sealed and the hair moisturized.

Curly hair needs weekly deep treatments, daily conditioners and utilizing leave-in moisturizers. A weekly deep treatment is necessary to re-hydrate the hair and tone down any dryness or frizz. You will want to rinse out the conditioners using cold water to seal the cuticle and lock in the moisture.

  • Please keep the hair hydrated as much as possible.
  • Shampooing daily is not necessary.
  • At Sogno we recommend skipping a day.

When styling, apply a leave-in conditioner combined with a gel because this will define and accentuate the curl. Diffuse the hair dry with a cool setting since hot air swells the cuticle and causes frizz as cool air seals the cuticle, locks in the moisture and leaves the strands nice and smooth If the frizzys are bothering you it’s a sure sign that it is in need of a treatment. Remember

Treat the problem and not mask it with faux styling aids containing silicones
