Courtney Billing’s middle name should be Passion.
Courtney grew up on Deer Isle, a small island in Maine. Fashion and hair trends were not a top conversation maker in Deer Isle, but for Courtney it was different! She was always styling her friends’ hair and doing their make up for school dances and proms. In 3rd grade she colored her own hair hot pink and color became a passion at that very moment.
Her senior year in high school she was required to create a magazine as part of her English final. With Courtney’s passion for hair and make-up can you guess what she created? Yes! She interviewed a local hair stylist, created fabricated product ads, and wrote articles about hair, health, and trends. She aced it!
Passion for her community surfaced when she recently mentored a senior at Deer Isle-Stonington High School who later went on to attend Toni and Guy Hair Academy in Massachusetts. This senior girl had to choose a community member from Deer Isle-Stonington that she regarded highly in the field she had chosen to go into. She was required to interview Courtney and then do a hands-on project together over a period of a few months. They designed hair color on a mannequin and created a slideshow about her potential career. Courtney continues to be part of this young woman’s life offering guidance and support.
Courtney also donates her time cutting hair at Hospitality House in Rockport as well as other fundraisers for this Homeless shelter.
